Waipi'o Valley
At the north end of the island is a beautiful valley called Waipi'o. Apparently it was where King Kamehameha grew up, and was the meeting place for royalty when important decisions needed to be made. It was really productive farmland until a tsunami wiped it out in 1960, and now is a community of homesteaders and off-the-grid folks. To get into the valley you go down a really steep hill that our mini van definitely couldn't hack, so we walked. At the back of the valley is a waterfall.
Oh, oh! And in the valley is a little stream that crosses the road!! It was definitely the most interesting thing we had seen so far that day. We could hardly tear the boys away. Really.
Then we came to a much bigger stream to cross. It was very pretty. The boys were even more interested in this stream.
So it was only a matter of time until someone fell in. But it's just water.
Then we walked around a bit. Found a few ripe guavas we picked and ate.
Swung on some vines.
And headed back up the hill. Isaac walked the whole way himself, and it was a bit of a trek. The views were lovely.
