Trees

All that rain makes for some pretty amazing trees. One thing that Joseph and Caleb dislike about Colorado is the scarcity of good climbing trees, but I think this trip should tide them over for awhile. There are striking trees almost anywhere you look here.

But it's the banyan trees that make for amazing climbing. The first good find was a big one in Hilo in Liliuokalani Park, a charmingly manicured, Japanese-garden style area. It is a comfortable, welcoming space despite the formal elements, and walking through it is even more pleasant than one would expect from the edges. It's a really impressive urban space.

And the granddaddy of them all by Rainbow Falls near Hilo.

Look at that tree! It's the size of a small building! It has tunnels and largish rooms inside it! Needless to say, it was love at first sight for the boys.

Nice that you put Joseph (I think???) in the picture so we could see just how massively HUGE these trees are! I remember seeing Banyan trees when we were in Jamaica. They are a sight to behold!
