We had a sweet family home evening tonight. After a very selective and brief summary of the parable of the prodigal son, emphasizing that the son had to sleep with pigs who go "oink," we looked at this picture of the son returning home to his father. It depicts the moving passage in Luke 15:20, "When he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him." (Incidentally, this story always reminds me of several years ago when my sister was gone, and my parents were overwhelmed with worry and fear and anger and every bad feeling. My Mom told me before my sister came home that she was so worried that when she was finally back, my Mom would be so angry with her for everything that had happened, but that when she finally returned she felt nothing but the most overwhelming love for her. It makes me tear up to think about it even now.) We talked about Jesus, and how he'll always love us, and how we'll always love Joseph when he makes mistakes. And then for our activity we gave each other hugs like the father in the picture, and it was good to feel the love.
