We celebrated with a sports birthday party, which included a basketball cake.
A few of his friends came to celebrate with us. The spontaneous giggling while they all ate cake together was a beautiful sound.
A few weeks ago when we were in Arches, Caleb was impressed with his hiking skills and described himself as a "complicated hiker." Nephi and I completely agree. Caleb is a complicated hiker in many ways. But it just makes us like him more. He's smart as can be and already reads very well. He is clever with language and often comes up with turns of phrase or new words that precisely capture an idea. He loves playing sports, is extremely determined, and has the most beautiful, clear laugh. We love having him in our family!

Wow, I can't believe he is 5! Has it really been that long?
Besides...he's such a handsome kid. That face will break many a heart--just a warning. Hope he's not reading this.
