Grand Canyon

We flew in and out of Phoenix to get to Hawai'i. The tickets were cheaper, and we got to visit my parents for a few days when we got back. We swam, went to the science museum, did some school shopping, played tennis in the early mornings, and went to a huge indoor jumpy-house place that the kids loved. It was great.

And by a happy alignment of fate, Nephi's brother Aaron was travelling in Arizona with his family at precisely the same time we were there! And Martha, who lives way up in Utah, decided she might as well bring her family down to meet us all at the Grand Canyon! Ellen came down too. This is the sort of thing that happens in the West that easterners don't understand. That's the equivalent of someone in Burlington, Vermont deciding to swing down to Washington, DC. Anyway, we all converged at Grand Canyon and camped and hiked for a few marvelous days. There were nineteen of us, and it was like being part of a flash mob wherever we went. One day we hiked part of the way down the South Kaibab trail. Nephi actually was quite sick and stayed in the tent that day, which was sad. But it was a good hike. We were there on July 4th, and that evening there was a ranger program where we all got together and sang patriotic songs.

Cousins are the best. The Grand Canyon is amazing. Good times.
